What is a pre-purchase car inspection?
It is a detailed check of a used car before you buy it. RevXpress reports cover mechanical health, bodywork, OBD2 diagnostics and a road test, so you can decide with the facts in front of you.
How much does a car inspection cost?
Basic is £69.99, Full is £99.99, Premium is £139.99, Ultimate is £169.99. The price is fixed for each level and paid when you book.
Do you only inspect cars before they are bought?
No. Most customers book us before buying, but we also inspect cars after purchase when a fault appears, vans and light commercial vehicles, electric and hybrid cars, lease cars before they are handed back, and classic and prestige cars. The same fixed prices apply.
Do you offer same-day inspections?
Yes, in most areas. Live availability is shown when you book, and the earliest times appear first.
Where do you carry out inspections?
We cover London. The inspector comes to wherever the car is, whether that is a dealer forecourt or a private seller’s driveway.
Do I need to be there?
No. Many customers book us because they are buying from a distance. Premium and Ultimate include an HD video walkthrough so you can see the car for yourself.
Can I use the report to negotiate?
Yes. Premium and Ultimate reports include cost estimates for anything we find, which gives you real figures to put to the seller.
What if I need to change or cancel?
Reply to your confirmation email or call us. Cancellations made at least 24 hours before the inspection get a full refund. Later cancellations may be charged up to 50%. The full details are in our terms and conditions.
Do you take anything apart?
No. Our inspection is non-intrusive: we look, listen, test drive and scan the car’s computer, but we don’t dismantle anything. Some internal engine or gearbox problems can only be confirmed by taking parts apart.
Are you linked to any dealers or sellers?
No. RevXpress is independent and not affiliated with any seller, dealership or auction house. We work for you, the buyer.
Can I use the report in a legal dispute?
Our reports are made to help you decide whether to buy a car. They are not expert witness reports, so if you need evidence for a dispute you should instruct an independent qualified expert for that purpose.
How can I check a car’s history before buying?
Start with the free MOT history check on GOV.UK, which shows past results, advisories and recorded mileage. Add a paid history check for finance and write-off records, then book an inspection for the car’s actual condition.
