After you buy

Post-purchase car inspection

Already bought the car and something isn’t right? A warning light, a noise, a leak, or a feeling that it isn’t as described. An independent inspector comes to you, checks the whole car and writes down exactly what is wrong.
Call 020 3819 6799

You get the same detailed report with photos, fault codes and repair cost estimates that our pre-purchase customers get, so you know what is wrong, how serious it is and roughly what it costs to fix before deciding what to do next.

Questions

Post-purchase inspection FAQs

Can I use the report in a dispute with the seller?

Our report is prepared to help you understand the car’s condition. You are free to show it to the seller, but it is not prepared for complaints, claims, disputes or legal proceedings, and it is not expert evidence. RevXpress does not attend court, act as an expert witness or take part in disputes, and accepts no responsibility for the outcome of any claim (section 4.4 of our terms). If you need evidence for a dispute, instruct an appropriately qualified independent expert for that purpose.

What are my rights if a used car from a dealer develops a fault?

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, a car bought from a trader must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. You normally have 30 days to reject a faulty car for a full refund. Within six months, a fault is usually assumed to have been there when you bought it unless the dealer can show otherwise. Private sales only have to be “as described”. This is general information, not legal advice; Citizens Advice can help with your situation.

How soon should I get the car checked?

As soon as you notice a problem, and ideally within the first 30 days, while you have the most rights against a dealer.

Can you inspect the car at my home?

Yes. The inspector comes to wherever the car is: your home, your work, or the dealer if you have taken it back.

How much does it cost?

Post-purchase inspections use our fixed prices, from £69.99 for Basic up to £169.99 for Ultimate, with no travel charge in London. We recommend Premium or Ultimate, because they include repair cost estimates.

How do I book?

Book online and choose a time, or call us on 020 3819 6799. When you book, tell us in the notes that it’s a post-purchase inspection so the inspector knows what to focus on.
