Used Nissan inspection

Nissan pre-purchase inspection

The Qashqai and Juke are two of the UK’s most popular used crossovers. The CVT automatic, some small turbo petrols and diesels used for short trips are where problems tend to show.

Known problems

What goes wrong on a used Nissan

Common on Micra, Juke, Qashqai, X-Trail, Leaf. Not every car has these faults. They're what we look for.

CVT automatic

Xtronic CVT gearboxes can whine, judder or hesitate, especially if fluid changes have been skipped.

1.2 DIG-T petrol

There are reports of oil consumption and timing chain problems on the 1.2 DIG-T petrol used in the Qashqai from about 2014 to 2018.

Air conditioning condensers

Older Qashqais are known for air con condensers damaged by stones, so the air con stops cooling.

1.5 dCi diesel

Diesels used for short trips can clog the DPF. High-mileage engines need a good oil service history.

Leaf battery capacity

Older Leafs, especially 24 kWh cars, can have lost a lot of battery capacity. The capacity bars on the dash give a guide.

Questions

Nissan inspection FAQs

Is a used Nissan Qashqai with a CVT reliable?

Many are fine with fluid changes on time. Whining, judder or slow response are warning signs. We test it in traffic and at speed.

How do I check a used Nissan Leaf battery?

Look at the battery capacity bars, the range on a full charge and how it charges. We record what the car shows and any battery-related warnings.

How much does a used Nissan inspection cost?

From £69.99 for Basic up to £169.99 for Ultimate. The price is fixed, with no travel charge, in London.

Can you inspect a used Nissan at the dealer or a private seller?

Yes. The inspector comes to wherever the car is, on a forecourt or at the seller’s home or workplace. You don’t need to be there.
